Icelandic Family Life in Photos

Brazilian photographer Anna Silveira received an envelope two years ago from her then 89-year-old grandmother on which was written “A Trip to the North Pole.” Her grandmother explained that her dream was to visit Iceland but she never had the chance. She gave Silveira a voucher for her birthday and asked her to visit the country and come back with some photos.

A few months later, Silveira got to know photographer Mary Ellen Mark, who has spent time in Iceland in the past, when she came to Brazil to teach a workshop. Silveira’s job was to show her around São Paulo. Mark was preparing to give a workshop in Iceland and so Silveira went ahead and planned her trip.

She visited Iceland last summer and took images of everyday family life using her Leica M9. Her photos were published on the Leica blog earlier today.
